Visit from a Great Blue Heron
The Great Blue Herons in the area fly over regularly on their way between ponds and the nearby woodsy swamp. Two days ago, for the first time, one stopped in our yard. There, up at the top of the pine tree our my kitchen window, a Great Blue tried to perch. High enough, but not a strong enough perch. I wonder what drew the bird to pause in our yard before flying on?

ReplyDeleteMia and I saw a Great Blue Heron twice recently. Once, while driving through the Seneca Creek natural area. We startled it with the car and it flew, luckily in the same direction we drove! So we got a good look at it. More recently, another one paused on the peak of our roof around sunset when we were all outside. It looked like something prehistoric, especially when it flew and we sat it profiled against the red sunset sky.
